THE QUICKEST WAY TO
COVER YOUR SEAT

Shortcuts make life worth living

Quick Trick: It may seem strange, but you can put a new seat cover over an old one. You'll have to use longer staples. We recommend using an air staple gun, but aspring operated one will work.

1. Step one: Before you start, take off the seat brackets. They will just get in the way.

2. Step two: Most replacement seat covers have creases in them and could use some flattening. Use a heat gun to warm up the seat material. This will smooth out thetexture and make it more malleable.

3. Step three: Start by flipping the ends of the new seat cover right-side-out. A heat gun helps if you've got a really stiff gover.

4. Step four: Slip both ends of the cover over the ends of the seat. If you have the wrong seat cover, thei si where you will notice your error.

5. Step five: Staple down the ends of the seat cover (don't use too many staples). Since you are puttin a new cover over an old one try not to hit the old staples with the new ones.

6. Step six: Once both end are tacked on, use a heat gun to make the seat cover as pliable as possible.

7. Step seven: The seat cover must be pulled extremely tight to prevent bunching up. Grab it tightly, pull it snug and staple it. Move in small increments to insure that it is as tight as possible.

8. Step eight: Slowly work around the seat, pulling the cover tight and stapling it as you go. At this point you can be generous with the staples. Most of the stress is where the seat base bonds.

9. Step nine: Keep using the heat gun at every step along the way. The warmer the seat cover the farther it will stretch.

10. Step ten: Check your staples to make sure that they are all the way into the plastic base. Now is the time to even out any gaps in your stapling pattern -- by blasting away.

11. Step eleven: Take a utility knifr or razor blade and cut off the excess material from where the seat brackets bolt on. Put the seat mounts back on and you're finished.

12. Step twelve: Put the seat back on your bike. If you lucked out, the seat's graphics will line up with the tank's graphics. If they don't, welcome to the club.
